Off the Beaten Track

Too many tourists? Want some 'alone time' with the Incas?

Why not explore one of the Sacred Valleys 'hidden' Inca gems.

Huchuy Qosqo and Ancasmarca are both situated in the mountains above the town of Calca, which is the capital town in Peru's Sacred Valley. Due to the remoteness of the locations very few tourists know about these sites or make the effort to visit, which means there is a very good chance it will just be you, the Incas and their Gods.

Huchuy Qosqo

Huchuy Qosqo is an amazing Inca archaeological site located above Calca at an altitude of 3,650 m / 11,975 ft.

The name comes from the Quechua language and means "Little Cusco."

It is thought that Huchuy Qosco was established as a royal estate by the Inca Emperor Viracocha in about 1420 CE.

This incredible, ancient Inca, citadel overlooks the Sacred Valley where travelers can enjoy one of the most breathtaking views in the Cusco region.

Ancasmarca

Ancasmarca, a Quechua word meaning "city of the eagle," is located in the heart of the Sacred Valley of the Incas at a height of 3,850m / 12,600ft and is approx. 23km from Calca.

It is believed to have been built pre Inca and then used during the Inca Empire, possibly between the 15th and 16th centuries, as part of the storage network that supplied the empire.

Ancasmarca offers a unique glimpse into the storage system of the ancient Inca Empire.
